National Honey Monitoring Scheme Results
Each year samples of Actual Honey are submitted to the National Honey Monitoring Scheme (NHMS) for analysis. The sugar content and moisture content are analysed in addition to a pollen analysis to find out what the bees have been foraging on. That information is used by the NHMS to get a ‘fingerprint’ of the habitat in the local area and look for changes in the flora and find out levels of pesticides and residues that might affect the bees.
The NHMS is open to all beekeepers in the UK but due to the limited funding they are only able to analyse a certain number of samples per year, typically on a first come first served basis, so it’s important to get in quick each year to take part!
